@JannikZed That file location hasn't changed I think, did you install v1.22.6+rke2r1? And how? Does /etc/rancher/rke2 exist at all?

In etcdctl compact using cut -d " " -f3 is a safer option since cut -d: -f2 could lead to whitespaces. For instance having:

$ echo '"Revision" : 215124273' | cut -d  :  -f2
  215124273

However:

$ echo '"Revision" : 215124273' | cut -d ' ' -f3
215124273

The whole command could be rewritten in the following form:

rev=$(kubectl -n kube-system exec $(kubectl -n kube-system get pod -l component=etcd --no-headers -o custom-columns=NAME:.metadata.name | head -1) -- sh -c "ETCDCTL_ENDPOINTS='https://127.0.0.1:2379' ETCDCTL_CACERT='/var/lib/rancher/rke2/server/tls/etcd/server-ca.crt' ETCDCTL_CERT='/var/lib/rancher/rke2/server/tls/etcd/server-client.crt' ETCDCTL_KEY='/var/lib/rancher/rke2/server/tls/etcd/server-client.key' ETCDCTL_API=3 etcdctl endpoint status --write-out fields | grep Revision | cut -d ' ' -f3")
kubectl -n kube-system exec $(kubectl -n kube-system get pod -l component=etcd --no-headers -o custom-columns=NAME:.metadata.name | head -1) -- sh -c "ETCDCTL_ENDPOINTS='https://127.0.0.1:2379' ETCDCTL_CACERT='/var/lib/rancher/rke2/server/tls/etcd/server-ca.crt' ETCDCTL_CERT='/var/lib/rancher/rke2/server/tls/etcd/server-client.crt' ETCDCTL_KEY='/var/lib/rancher/rke2/server/tls/etcd/server-client.key' ETCDCTL_API=3 etcdctl compact \"$(echo $rev)\""

Btw, this gist still being a great resource, special thanks!!!

all relevant etcd commands are broken since rke2 v.1.28 because the etcd container seems like to not include any other binaries anymore, so the error will be:

FATA[0000] execing command in container: Internal error occurred: error executing command in container: failed to exec in container: failed to start exec "57368aadef46de7bac48b2fad95331d0ac6e75bb9c771d65b207048d9c135389": OCI runtime exec failed: exec failed: unable to start container process: exec: "sh": executable file not found in $PATH: unknown

but unfortunately i have not yet found a better solution

@Zappelphilipp You can use the parameters directly without the sh -c wrapper, I will update the commands later today. Example:

/var/lib/rancher/rke2/bin/crictl exec $etcdcontainer etcdctl --cert /var/lib/rancher/rke2/server/tls/etcd/server-client.crt --key /var/lib/rancher/rke2/server/tls/etcd/server-client.key --cacert /var/lib/rancher/rke2/server/tls/etcd/server-ca.crt endpoint status --cluster --write-out=table
