Simple steps to fix problems with resolution with a Pi 5, RetroPi, Emulation Station, in Ubuntu.
Retro games were not designed to run on 4K displays. This can cause games to run excessively slow.
Symptoms may include:
- SNES games run in the top left quadrant of the TV.
- Emulation Station menus and games run slow and lag.
To change emulation station game resolution to fix 4K Monitor lag:
- In Ubuntu go to Display Settings and choose 1920x1080.
- In emulationstation select RetroPi Setup.
- Select RetroArch.
- Select Video Options.
- Set Aspect Ratio to 4:3.
- Go back to the first RetroArch menu and select Settings->Save Configuration on Exit.
