10 Mistakes to Avoid in Logo Design

1. The logo isn’t flexible enough

Always contemplate variations in size, proportion, and color.

2. The logo isn’t clear in black & white

Make sure that core elements are visible when reproduced in greyscale or black & white.

3. The logo isn’t distinctive enough

Test your design choices with your target audience to flag similarities or confusion.

4. Some elements are offensive

Make sure that there is nothing openly or implicitly offensive in your logo’s shapes or colors.

5. It isn’t ready for color systems

Colors should be specified in every major system in order to preserve uniformity.

6. Details are too small

Would the average viewer be able to understand the design elements you’re presenting?

7. Visual style isn’t a good fit

Infuse your logo with the aesthetic style associated with your products.

8. Choices are driven by what’s trendy

Avoid designing a brand identity based on trends alone.

9. It doesn’t convey the right emotion

Figure out which emotions are salient during consumption and reflect those in your identity.

10. Your logo files aren’t scalable

Have vector files on hand when you submit your logo files to designers & partners.
