Use one of these techniques to install node and npm without having to sudo. Discussed in more detail at http://joyeur.com/2010/12/10/installing-node-and-npm/ Note: npm >=0.3 is *safer* when using sudo.
echo 'export PATH=$HOME/local/bin:$PATH' >> ~/.bashrc
. ~/.bashrc
mkdir ~/local
mkdir ~/node-latest-install
cd ~/node-latest-install
curl http://nodejs.org/dist/node-latest.tar.gz | tar xz --strip-components=1
./configure --prefix=~/local
make install # ok, fine, this step probably takes more than 30 seconds...
curl https://www.npmjs.org/install.sh | sh

Sass/Less Comparison

In this document I am using Sass's SCSS syntax. You can choose to use the indented syntax in sass, if you prefer it, it has no functional differences from the SCSS syntax.

For Less, I'm using the JavaScript version because this is what they suggest on the website. The ruby version may be different.

Code highlighting for Keynote presentations

Step 0:

Get Homebrew installed on your mac if you don't already have it

Step 1:

Install highlight. "brew install highlight". (This brings down Lua and Boost as well)

Nginx + secure pseudo-streaming
# Nginx can serve FLV/MP4 files by pseudo-streaming way without any specific media-server software.
# To do the custom build we use 2 modules: --with-http_secure_link_module --with-http_flv_module
# This module "secure-link" helps you to protect links from stealing away.
#
# NOTE: see more details at coderwall: http://coderwall.com/p/3hksyg
cd /usr/src
wget http://nginx.org/download/nginx-1.5.13.tar.gz
tar xzvf ./nginx-1.5.13.tar.gz && rm -f ./nginx-1.5.13.tar.gz

These instructions work for the Raspberry Pi running Raspbian (hard float) and create a hardware optimized version of NodeJS for the Raspberry PI, (and include a working install and NPM!!!):

  1. Install Raspbian - http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads

  2. Install the necessary dependecies:

sudo apt-get install git-core build-essential

(If you just installed git then you need to administer your git identity first, else adding the patches below will fail!!!)
