Steps for building my fork of Packer

From hashicorp/packer#2576 (comment)

cd ~/Source/go
$ENV:GOPATH=$(pwd)
go get github.com/mitchellh/packer
cd src\github.com\mitchellh\packer
git remote add hyperv https://github.com/patricklang/packer
git fetch hyperv HyperV
git checkout HyperV

I started out with https://github.com/taliesins/packer-baseboxes/blob/master/hyperv-windows-10-amd64.json, but made minor changes:

  • commented out three lines - they take a long time to run and I'm not sure they actually save disk space
- "./windows/common/ultradefrag.ps1",
- "./windows/common/optimize-drive.ps1",
- "./windows/common/sdelete.ps1"

I ran it with packer.exe build hyperv-windows-10-amd64.json, which worked fine. It's slower than I would like due to the cleanup.ps1 runtime

packer.exe build -only=hyperv-iso windows_2016_docker.json

hyperv-iso output will be in this color.

Warnings for build 'hyperv-iso':

* For nested virtualization, when virtualization extension is enabled, mac spoofing should be allowed.

Steps tried

  1. Installed Debian 8.7.1 from ISO using Packer with hyperv-iso plugin. source
  • packer build -only=hyperv-iso -var-file=.\debian8.json .\debian.json
  1. Added deb http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-backports main to /etc/apt/sources.list
  2. sudo apt-get install hyperv-daemons=4.*
  3. sudo apt-get install linux-image-amd64=4.8* linux-base=4.3*
  4. sudo reboot

Setting up IIS with User Authorization in Windows Server containers

Create a resource group

Create a resource group in Azure to hold all of the resources you'll be creating:

  • Virtual Network
  • Virtual Machines

Create a VNet

  • Don't use 172.* IPs. I used 10.3.0.0/24

hAP AC lite

This is currently passing traffic through either wireless interface and appears to be favoring wlan2 (5ghz). I can get up to 98.4Mbps from a LAN port through the NAT to another node on my network with file copies.

This has two wireless interfaces and 5 ethernet ports. Ether1 and both wlan are used for "internet". The others are bridged on LAN side since there isn't an internal switch.
